THE STORY OF RAVEN CLIFF began with Justin Spears moving from Rockport, TX to Nashville, TN in 2005. A prolific songwriter with vocal talent, Justin was able to make a living writing music and singing demos to pitch to other artists. Stretching his arms out into Nashville, he befriended Grammy nominated producer Gary Cirimelli in 2011, and the two began to write together. The duo was churning out song after song and became a one stop shop, playing and recording all the instruments on their own demos as well as those of friends.

While writing and recording with Justin, Gary was also producing a rock band with drummer Cameron Vaught, and Gary, while wearing that producer’s hat, saw the potential and approached the two about starting a project together. Cameron agreed but had to finish his last few scheduled shows, including one in his home town of Rural Retreat, VA at his former high school. That’s where Cameron met the band director, Justin “Mac” McFarland, who also happened to be a bass player looking for an opportunity in Nashville. Cameron offered Mac an audition, and by the end of it, Cameron, Gary and Mr. Spears knew they found their bass player. Within three days, Mac sold everything in his house and moved to Nashville. The group needed a guitar player, and Zach Boblitt, who was a full time engineer for NASA, had just put his feelers out in Nashville. Gary heard Zach’s body of work and called him with an invitation to visit Nashville and meet the guys. Within three days, Zach broke the news to his family and work, and the following weekend he moved to Nashville.

Voodoo Whiskey When the Levee Breaks - Raven Cliff

The authentic style of Raven Cliff, named after a campground and fishing hole in southern Virginia, has proven to be too unique to label, combining elements of southern rock, traditional country, bluegrass and pure love of all other genres. The boys have been selling out nearly every venue in Nashville ever since, and the band can also say they were personally signed to the star-studded roster of the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) by CAA President John Huie himself as one of the only bands on the roster without label support. The foursome has been travelling the country nonstop to share their music and wow audiences with a dynamic live show and friendly energy that captures their brotherhood mentality and makes listeners feel right at home. Having opportunities to share the stage with artists such as the Bellamy Brothers, Craig Morgan, Tracy Lawrence, Joe Nichols, and REO Speedwagon, no stage is too big or too small for Raven Cliff to work their magic
